Daily stress increases “sleep texting” disorder
November 23rd, 2011 - 12:39 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, Nov 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Scientists have been baffled by a condition that affects very few people in society called “sleep texting.” The phenomenon is when a person sends text messages to loved ones or other contacts while the person is sleeping. There have been some reported cases worldwide. In all the cases, the person sends the message and is not aware about it.
A peculiar case is a 44-year-old woman who composes and sends emails while still sleeping. She does that without being aware of it. Scientists have been fascinated by sleep texting but no studies have been concluded on the subject.
Melbourne Sleep Disorder Centre’s Sleep Specialist Dr. David Cunnington explained that, “We have had patients who have reported sending text messages to their friends and family while asleep. It is one of those things that happens, but it is very rare, and certainly not a common trend.”
Scientists suspect that the daily stress of life causes the body to function when it is supposed to be in the sleep mode.
Texting and emailing are not the only things that people with sleeping disorders have been reported to have done. Cases of sleeping people driving around town and going to shops have also been reported around the world.
