recall1Mar 30, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Product recalls are not uncommon but the March of this year will be remembered for the hike in the number of children’s product recalls. Earlier it was only kid’s toys that were recalled but in the last few months several baby accessories have been recalled by several companies. The incident of 1 million baby slings made by a company named Infantino made headlines in recent times. The slings were recalled as it was found that using them can lead to the breathing problems for toddlers. Another company that came to the spotlight for children’s product recall is Graco. The design of Graco’s Harmony chair was found to be unsafe by the Consumer Product Safety Commission of the USA and a recall was issued.

Graco recalled 1.2 million such chairs this month. Two dozen cases of injury were reported from the use of these chairs. In January, the company also recalled 1.5 million strollers owing to the possibility of finger injury. Kids in Danger, a non profit entity that evaluates children’s product safety has termed 2010 as the year of kids product recall. Even in 2009 a huge number of children’s products were recalled. A stair gate is also on the recall list. It may pose danger to the kids. Ironically, the product was meant to keep the kids safe.

The increase in the rate of kids product recalls has made the parents worried. It is no longer limited to the toys and everything from baby dresses to safety products are turning out to be harmful. The CPSC is keeping a close tab on the situation.
