candyWashington, June 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) June 22 was the one year anniversary of Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, which gives the U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulatory authority over the manufacturing, sale and marketing of tobacco products. According to latest reports, the smoking prevention law banned candy cigarettes along with “fruit-flavored” cigarettes in United States with effect earlier this week.

There were many new provisions that is laid down by the government and the citizens will have to abide by such rules. The sellers are warned not to sell such cigarettes to children and there is a strict ban on misleading cigarette labels like “light”, “mild”, and “low tar” as the officials think that these terms are used to mislead the customers and prevent them from quitting by deceivingly showing some tobacco products as safer. Moreover, the law demands that large and bold warning on smokeless tobacco products should be the priority while advertising for the product.

The law that was signed last year giving FDA the power to regulate tobacco, now comes into effect with stricter rules. The flavors of cigarettes that were banned included toffee, mocha, mint, vanilla and strawberry and the officials said that these flavors appeal to children most and hence this ban was made instrumental. The main aim of this provision is to reduce child smokers.

The flavored cigarettes were banned last year and supposedly this year the candy cigarettes are targeted by the FDA as the officials report that over 400,000 people die each year in the United States Of America for tobacco use and approximately it costs $96 billion annually for health care.
