cancer-cellsJune 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The cancer deaths would be doubled by next two decades as per the reports of the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France says, which is a part of the World Health Organization.

The Cancer researchers at United Nations World Health Organization last Wednesday at GLOBOCAN 2008 estimated the number of deaths from cancer for 2008 and predicted the probable number of deaths in 2030.

The director of the International Agency for Research on Cancer, Christopher Wild says that by 2030 there will be 21.4 million cases of cancer diagnosed, the rate being most in the developing countries and there are going to be more than 13.2 million deaths compared to the previous 12.7 new cases and 7.6 million deaths in 2008 given the fact the rates of cancer would remain constant in next 20 years.

It has been seen that 56% of the new cancer cases were diagnosed within developing countries and worldwide and 63% of deaths were reported. Cervix and liver cancers are frequent in the developing countries and prostate and colorectal cancers are common in the developed countries. Of all, the most common cause of deaths are still from lung, stomach and liver cancers.

Christopher Wild also said that the figures represented are the most accurate assessment of the global cancer figure available presently and can be used in the setting priorities for cancer control in different regions of the world. Europe is found to be the continent with most cancer cases followed by South America and Asia as the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) reports show.

There can be many reasons for cancer but mostly it is seen that tobacco consumption is one of the main reasons for it.

There are about 1.61 million cases of lung cancer, 1.38 million cases of breast cancer and 1.23 million instances of colorectal cancer as the 2008 report shows.
