Briton to sue government for letting him grow fat
January 7th, 2011 - 5:52 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Jan 7 (IANS) A Briton plans to sue the National Health Service (NHS) for ignoring his health as his weight rocketed to 444 kg, a media report said Friday.Paul Mason Paul - once the world’s fattest man - vowed to help other patients who need weight-loss options.
The 50-year-old, of Ipswich, said he begged his local NHS trust for help when he hit 199 kg, The Sun reported.
But the medic he consulted in 1996 told him: “Ride your bike more.”
When he hit 406 kg (64 stone) he asked to see an eating disorders specialist, but was sent to a dietician.
Paul, now about 234 kg (37 stone), said: “I want to set a precedent so no one else has to get to the same size - and to put something back into society.”
An NHS Suffolk spokesman said: “As we have not heard from Mason it would be inappropriate to speculate.”
