July 26 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The portable recliners which were manufactured by ‘Baby Matters’ called ‘Nap Nanny’ are supposed to help with getting baby to sleep when the parent cannot always hold them, however, these items are being recalled during the investigation of the death of a four month old baby girl.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) gave the announcement on Monday of 30,000 Nap Nanny Recliners which were made by Baby Matters LLC of Berwyn Pennsylvania. This comes after the opening of an investigation of the death of a four month old baby girl from Royal Oak, Michigan who died while sleeping on a Nap Nanny that was being used inside the child’s crib.

The baby was said to have been found hanging over the side of the Nap Nanny recliner which was made of foam. She was caught between the foam recliner and the bumper of the crib, with the apparent cause of death suffocation.

There have been 22 reports given in to the CPSC of babies, usually under 5 months old, falling over the side of the Nap Nanny even though these babies were strapped into the recliner’s harness as they were supposed to be. The CPSC did state that the Nap Nanny is not supposed to be used inside if a crib, but is meant to be placed on the floor away from any other materials and furniture.

The Nap Nanny recliner, which was sold at children’s toy and retail stores for around 130 bucks, is designed to mimic the way a car seat is curved, which keeps the baby slightly elevated to help eliminate gas, stuffiness, and reflux. Being held by the parent would also keep the baby elevated in this much safer way.

Consumers should contact the company if they wish to receive new product instructions, and in some cases a coupon will be issued towards the purchase of a new Nap Nanny. Online:
