images18Jan 15, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Researchers recently came up with a new view in sharp contrast to the existing guidelines when they said that feeding only breast milk to babies for the first six months is not necessarily the best thing to do. A team of experts from University College London’s Institute of Child Health on Friday announced that breast milk alone is not sufficient for ensuring sound health for the babies.

The team led by a paediatrician said that their study has revealed that a baby if fed nothing else apart from breast milk can suffer from iron deficiency. The child may also be easily prone to developing allergies as well as catch other diseases. This team of researchers are advising that mothers should come out of their traditional concept of feeding only breast milk. Instead they should also add solids to the baby’s diet from four months onwards along with the nutritious breast milk. This will help the baby to fight against allergies, anaemia and other diseases. Although the news certainly bears a varied opinion from the conventional guideline that mother’s milk is the best for a child to feed upon until six month of age, the results of the new study has some noteworthy factors to prove their claims. Lack of solid from the diet may also result in children refraining from consuming from green leafy vegetables when they grow up.

The results of the study which was recently published in the British Medical Journal claims that solid foods if not introduced to the child from the tender age will not open his taste buds. Hence, the tendency to avoid bitter tasting vegetables will lead him or her to readily opt for junk food which will increase the risk for obesity.
