Oct 13, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It has been studied that every year more than 500,000 Americans are diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Recently, the Autism Society of America says that autism is growing at the rate of 10 to 17 percent in the nation, based on the data available from different U.S. Department of Education and other governmental agencies. By the next decade, it is believed that the disease could reach to more than 4 million Americans. Autism Spectrum Disorder includes five types of Pervasive Developmental Disorders. They are Autistic Disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome, Rett’s Disorder, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder and Pervasive Developmental Disorder.
Asperger’s Syndrome, which is one of the most popular of them, have become a huge subject of concern amongst the parents. The disease includes difficulties in social interaction coupled with restricted and repetitive patterns of interest and behavior. Atypical use of language and physical clumsiness are typical symptoms of this disease. Preservation of linguistic and cognitive development is another significant symptom of the disease, which marks its difference from the other types of Autism Spectrum Disorder. These children indulge mostly in very skillful non verbal communication and are indifferent towards peers. The disease is developed in infancy or early childhood, that restricts the maturity of the brain during the development period. As a result, it delays various cognitive development. They are often obsessive about a particular subject or an object.
Diagnosis of the disease has not yet be specified. However, most doctors resort to the standardized norms to test the disease. They include Abnormal eye contact, Aloofness, Failure to turn when called by name, Failure to use gestures to point or show, Lack of interactive play, Lack of interest in peers. Although there were not too many remedies of this disease before, now it can be treated through various non medical therapies. It is suggested that if the parents find abnormality in speech, communication problems amongst children and self harming behavior in their children, they should visit the doctors immediately to stop its further propagation.
