Another Delhi school closes as 2 students get swine flu (Lead)
August 10th, 2009 - 2:10 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 10 (IANS) With two of its students testing positive for Influenza A(H1N1), the Raghubir Singh Junior Modern School in south Delhi announced Monday that it will remain closed for a week.
“Two of our students have tested positive for swine flu. They are from class B-3. Keeping in mind that we don’t want the other children to be affected, the authorities have decided to close the school for a week,” an official from the principal’s office said.
“The school will now re-open on Aug 17,” the official added.
Frantic parents who heard the news from others rushed to the school Monday morning after having dropped off their kids just a little while earlier. They were told by the authorities to look out for any flu symptoms that their child may have and get them checked by the doctor immediately.
Modern School’s junior section is located on Humayun Road near Khan market in south Delhi.
This is the third school in the capital to have closed for a week because of the H1N1 virus outbreak.
On Sunday, Sanskriti School here announced that it will be closed for a week after three of its students tested positive for swine flu. One of the students contracted the virus in Britain and did not join school after returning from there.
The Delhi Public School (DPS), East of Kailash also announced that it will be closed for a week after one of its students tested positive for swine flu.
Various other schools have temporarily shut down sections where a styudents has tested positive.
In Delhi, 178 people have been discharged after undergoing treatment for H1N1, while 58 are still undergoing treatment.
