ADHD Rates Soar Among American Kids
November 12th, 2010 - 3:09 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonNov 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) According to a new set of statistics, there are more and more American children who have been diagnosed with ADHD, with the rate of kids who are said to have the disease rising more than twenty percent.
The new government report claims that almost one out of every ten school age kid has the disorder called Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. This adds up to almost five and a half million kids who are said to suffer from this issue. This is the largest spike in ADHD diagnosis’s in four years. Among older children the jump was almost higher, at forty-two percent.
Some speculate that perhaps doctors are too quick to diagnose this disorder, and parents are concerned that this may be a “cover all” name for “whatever ails” your kids.
But others say that the rise in ADHD diagnosis’s may be due to better awareness, now that parents, schools, and doctors can more easily recognize and diagnose the disorder. Dr. Max Wiznitzer of UH Case Medical Center says, “It affects people in all factors, rich or poor, it has no real care of what your race or creed or color is.”
But there is hope. According to the doctor, most kids will outgrow their need to be medicated for this condition.
