Beef Recall Montebello, Jan 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) There are concerns that around 864,000 pounds of ground beef, which was processed at a Southern California meat processor, might be contaminated with E. coli. So the beef is being recalled, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

This 864,000 pounds of beef was shipped to various places like restaurants, hotels and other distribution centers in California. The recall is going to affect the 40-pound boxes of Huntington Meats Ground Beef, 10-pound and 20-pound boxes of Imperial Meat Co. Ground Beef Patty, and 10-pound boxes of El Rancho Meat and Provision All Beef Patties.

Each affected and to-be-recalled box contains the establishment number “EST. 17967″ inside the USDA mark of inspection on a label, officials said. The contaminated beef, was shipped around Feb. 19, 2008 to May 15, 2008, so it’s quite a possibility that it has already been purchased and even been consumed. The USDA did say that they have received no information of anybody who became sick, after consuming the E. coli tainted beef products.

E. Coli is a dangerous variety of food-borne bacteria and it known to cause very serious food poisoning, which if untreated can be fatal too. Symptoms of E. coli infection are severe stomach cramps, with diarrhea that may turn bloody within one to three days, officials said.
