60_minutesJune 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) CBS’ ‘60 Minutes’ focused on the disease that has emerged as America’s biggest health threat in the recent years- epilepsy. The show was hosted by Katie Couric and guests included David Axelrod and his wife. David Axelrod is an adviser to President Barack Obama and also has a daughter who suffers from epilepsy. His wife Susan Axelrod recollected the horrifying experiences with her epileptic child on the show.

The show called epilepsy a great threat to entire mankind. David Axelrod says that he was unaware of the disease until his eldest child was diagnosed with it. Susan Axelrod shared her emotions when she found her daughter in a fit and thought that she might be dead. The emotionally charged show talked about how Susan Axelrod watched her daughter suffer through the years and begging her to make the seizures stop. It was this helplessness that forced the couple to take an initiative to help the patients. The Axelrods are now a part of the process that helps in understanding the urgency of finding a solution to the problem. Susan Axelrod and two such mothers have started an organization called CURE which funds the research for finding a cure to epilepsy.

Susan Axelrod said that it is unfortunate that epilepsy as a disease has existed for a long time and yet there is lack of funds for the research that will help in eradicating it. The official website of the network received several feedbacks from people who have suffered due to epilepsy. Many thanked ‘60 Minutes’ and host Katie Couric for shedding light on the disease and its risks.
