37 seminary students hospitalised in Uttar Pradesh
April 21st, 2011 - 3:51 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, April 21 (IANS) At least 37 students of a madrassa (seminary) in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanshiram Nagar were hospitalised Thursday as they took ill allegedly after eating the food served in the seminary hostels, officials said.
Students of Mohammadin-e-Jamia madrassa in Sahersa town were hospitalised Thursday after they complained of severe stomach ache and started vomiting.
“Though we are yet to ascertain what made the students ill, the incident appears to be a suspected case of food poisoning,” Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Bharat Sonkar told reporters in Kanshiram Nagar, some 250 km from here.
According to health officials, the students are being treated at a hospital and a primary health centre.
“We have learnt that the madrassa students Wednesday night had complained about uneasiness after having the dinner served by the madrassa administration,” Sonkar said.
“The stock of pulses and flour used in preparation of the dinner has been seized and sent for laboratory analysis,” he added.
The students hospitalised are in the age group 12-15 years, and their condition is stated to be out of danger.
