32 new dengue cases in Delhi
November 16th, 2009 - 2:19 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Nov 16 (IANS) The national capital Monday reported 32 new dengue cases, taking the total number of people affected by the vector-borne disease to 844.
“We have recorded 32 new dengue cases in the capital in the past 24 hours. Of these, 13 have recently travelled outside Delhi and came back with high temperature,” said N.K. Yadav, chief medical officer of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Until now, two dengue deaths have been reported in the capital - one of a nine-year old boy and the other of a 15-year-old boy.
Contradicting media reports of two more dengue deaths in the city, the health department said one was a person from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh and the other was not a confirmed dengue patient.
With the onset of winter in Delhi, the health department is expecting the number of dengue cases will fall since the Aedes mosquitoes, the carrier of the disease, will stop breeding, the official said.
The Delhi government had issued an order to all government-run hospitals and an advisory to private hospitals for better identification of suspected dengue patients.
