July 13th, 2009 - 6:29 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Ahmedabad, July 13 (IANS) A total of 32 victims of the Ahmedabad illicit liquor tragedy have been discharged from four hospitals of the city since Sunday morning after they were declared out of danger and able to be taken home, a health official said Monday.
“There are still about 90 patients under observation at Civil hospital, Shardaben hospital, LG hospital and VS hospital here. The total death toll has remained at 136 since Sunday morning and there has been no fresh death reported thereafter from any hospital. However, nothing could be said right now as many of the patients are still under observation in various hospitals,” a senior Gujarat health department official said.
Private hospitals across Ahmedabad have also been asked to help out in admitting and treating the poor patients on humanitarian grounds as all the government and municipal hospitals where the victims are currently admitted are using their entire resources in terms of medicines, equipment and doctors to ensure that no further lives are lost, the official added.
Meanwhile, crime branch officials continued to question Harishankar Kahar, one of the masterminds of the illicit liquor scam, for the third consecutive day Monday. Vinod Dagri, the main mastermind behind the hooch tragedy is still absconding, police sources said.
