November 18th, 2009 - 4:33 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Nov 18 (IANS) With 30 new cases of dengue recorded in the national capital Wednesday, the total number of people infected with the vector-borne disease touched 913, health officials said.
“In the last 24 hours, we have recorded 30 new dengue cases in the capital. The cumulative figure of those affected is 913 ,” state nodal officer for dengue cases Debashish Bhattacharya told IANS.
He said the lowering temperature was a good sign.
With the onset of winter in Delhi, the health department is expecting the number of dengue cases to fall as the Aedes mosquitoes, the carrier of the disease, will stop breeding, the official said.
The official added that as per reports from government hospitals the “dangerous dengue fever cases” were reducing.
“The demand for platelets for blood transfusion in severe cases has also come down. We got one report from G.B. Pant Hospital saying that there was no demand for the stocked platelets like earlier,” Bhattacharya added.
Until now, two dengue deaths have been reported in the capital - one of a nine-year-old and the other of a 15-year-old boy.
