egg Galt, Aug 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Around 228 million eggs are going to be recalled because the Wright County Egg Company fears that they may be contaminated with salmonella.

In view of the contamination fears, the Galt based company has decided to issue a voluntary recall. The company officials were forced to take the hard decision after it was found that their produce could be linked to disease outbreak in numerous states.

The eggs, which are an integral part of the recall, were sold to many food wholesalers, distributers and some foodservice companies, which are located in California, Illinois, Missouri, Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. The officials of the Food and Drug Administration have confirmed the news of the recall.

From the distribution points, the eggs were then labeled under certain brands such as Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Shoreland, Dutch Farms, Farm Fresh and Kemps.

FDA officials said in a statement that, “Wright County Egg is fully cooperating with FDA’s investigation by undertaking this voluntary recall.” The FDA also added that the “consumers who believe they may have purchased these shell eggs should not eat them but should return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.”

The FDA officials have reached the premises of the company and they are checking out the facilities and esp. the barns of the company.
