17-day-old baby gets cornea transplant
December 27th, 2011 - 5:57 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Dec 27 (IANS) A 17-day-old infant has become the youngest Briton to have a cornea transplant.
Eva Joyce, now four months old, has a rare congenital condition and was born blind, The Sun reported.
She had surgery on her right eye when just 17 days old, and later a transplant in her left eye when she was four weeks.
Her 33-year-old mother Harriet, of Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, said the medical staff at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital “were great”.
Eva’s father Matthew, 34, added: “When we turned the Christmas lights on, her eyes lit up, which was very special.”
