“About 2,528 people have been tested, out of whom 574 are positive for the influenza A(H1N1). Of the 574 positive cases, 470 have been discharged,” a statement by the health ministry said. The remaining 96 people are under observation or treatment in special hospital facilities.
India saw its first swine flu death Monday when a 14-year-old girl succumbed to the influenza A (H1N1) virus.
Health authorities said all those who came in contact with the dead girl were screened for the swine flu. “They were found healthy and continued to remain asymptomatic,” a health ministry official said.
On Tuesday, 16 laboratory confirmed cases were reported from Delhi (3), Pune (6), two each in Mumbai, Chennai and Gurgaon, and one in Thiruvananthapuram.
Of the six cases reported in Pune, three are students who contracted the virus in the school.
In Mumbai, a 10-year-old girl who arrived from the US Aug 1 was found to be affected with the flu.
In Chennai, two kids were found to be infected with the flu. While one is a five-year-old girl who came from London Aug 2, the second is a two-and-a-half-year-old girl who came from Kuala Lumpur.
A 41-year-old woman and an eight-year-old girl were detected with flu-like symptoms in Gurgaon, neighbouring Delhi.
The two had travelled from the US to New Delhi Aug 2. On arrival, they were found to be suffering from flu-like symptoms and were admitted to an identified health facility.
