Organised by Venu Eye Institute, a New Delhi-based voluntary organisation, the event concluded here Wednesday. The students wrote slogans and made posters to spread awareness about the cause.
“We wanted to sensitise the students and people towards the need for eye donation by conducting this awareness camp,” Jayeeta Bose, an official of the institute, told IANS.
Several families who donated eyes of their kin were also felicitated at the event by former Central Bureau of Investigation chief Joginder Singh.
“My husband wanted someone else to see the world through his eyes after his death. I am proud to be associated with such a noble cause,” said Vinita Sachdeva.
An estimated 4.6 million people suffer from corneal blindness in India, an organiser said.
“Many people do not get treatment in time because they do not have access to transplant services,” he added.
