10 million Slim Fast canned drinks recalled
December 7th, 2009 - 1:41 am ICT by Aishwarya Bhatt ( Leave a comment )Englewood Cliffs, Dec 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Unilever PLC’s U.S. subsidiary has revealed that it has recalled all canned Slim Fast drinks because of the possibility of bacterial contamination that could cause diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. This recall is expected to affect around 10 million units, which is quiet a huge recall in terms of scale and size.
However the company tried to downplay the seriousness by saying that the probability of serious health problems is remote.
Unilever’s U.S. arm, based in Englewood Cliffs, N.J divulged that the products were sold nationwide. The affected products came in cartons of four, six or 12 steel cans, 11 ounces in size, and they were also sold individually. The recall, issued Thursday, covers all Slim-Fast products in cans, regardless of flavor, best by date, lot code or UPC number.
The company said it is working to determine the production issue that caused the contamination. It has halted production completely and is focusing its energies on the investigation instead. The FDA, which was notified by Unilever of the possible contamination on Dec. 2, is currently investigating the company’s production facility in Covington.
