March 22nd, 2011 - 9:51 pm ICT by IANSBadaun (Uttar Pradesh), March 22 (IANS) At least 10 people, most of them relatives, in this Uttar Pradesh district have developed an eye infection from the colours they used for celebrating Holi, an official said Tuesday.
The 10 are natives of Sahaswan town, and are being treated by an Aligarh-based doctor. The matter came to light when some locals approached the police to look into the incident.
“The doctor said he would be in a position to say only by tomorrow (Wednesday) whether the patients would lose their eyesight. Two-three of them have developed a very severe infection,” Sub-Divisional Magistrate M.P. Singh told IANS.
“One of them, who works in Delhi, had purchased the colours that are believed to be the reason behind the infection. Investigations are on to trace the shop from where the colours were purchased,” he added.
