touchDec 29, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A study conducted recently tells us that the women are much more sensitive to the feeling of a touch than their male counterparts. The study carried out in Canada’s McMaster University of Ontario, suggests that given to small hands in women, the ‘touch receptors’ are more closely located. These receptors are all clustered around the ’sweat pore bases’. The study also says that this could be the reason why the ability to do tasks such as surgery or sewing come much more easily to women rather then men. The credit to good embroidery thus goes to ‘high sensitive receptors’ located in the women’s fingertips.

The experiments were carried out on a number of subjects- close to about a hundred women. It was noticed that women who had smaller hands ‘could discern tighter grooves’ when these grooves were pressed against their fingertips.

The doctors also say that of the five fingers, the index finger is the most sensitive of all. However, the reason could be regular use of the index finger as compared to the little finger. The next study to be conducted revolves around children, where the same doctors will try to establish whether the sensory devices of children surpass that of the women. Given to the fact that the sense organs improves with the small dimension of hands, the next research has been suitably chosen. However, this kind of research has already taken place before when a doctor of University of London- Dr Andy Bremner studied a child’s sense to touch. The scientists also believe that this discovery could lead to better versions of ‘virtual touch’.
