Why sex life doesn’t have to end at menopause
August 15th, 2010 - 11:58 am ICT by ANIWashington, Aug 15 (ANI): Just because you hit menopause doesn’t mean your sex life is over- in fact, most women can enjoy better sex after their reproductive years. Here’s why.
Not only it is a great exercise, sex also slows down one’s aging process.
Against popular myth, a woman’s desire for sexual intimacy is not tied to menopause, and decline in sex drive is not a part of the normal aging process.
In fact, the presence of free testosterone in her system at this stage actually increases sex drive for some.
A lack of sex drive, on the other hand, could be a result of stress or painful sex. Talking with a gynaecologist about her sex-related concerns can help a woman decide if she needs to switch her medications, seek the services of a psychologist or take a stress reduction class.
Because of the lack of oestrogen, a woman may experience vaginal dryness and uterine contractions associated with orgasm, both of which may make sex painful.
But these can be counteracted by over-the-counter remedies such as lubricants or gels. Consultation with a doctor always help, as does frequent love making.
More importantly, just because menopausal women can’t reproduce is no excuse for unsafe sex - one still has to be on guard for STDs, including the virus that causes AIDS. (ANI)
