London, Sep 5 (IANS) A woman in Britain was bitterly terrified and started running for cover in her home after pieces of metal flew across her room like shrapnel, wrecking the cupboards and flooring.

The incident occurred after mum Tracy’s washing machine blew up, The Sun reported.
The explosion was so powerful that even the work surfaces, tiles and the kitchen sink were damaged.

The 41-year-old Tracy said: “It really was like a bomb going off. My kitchen looked as if someone had thrown a grenade into it.”

Tracy, of Waterloo, Hants had bought the 340-pound machine just 11 months ago. It exploded half an hour into a wash, as it was about to go into the spin cycle.

The household appliance company, meanwhile, replaced the machine and has offered to compensate Tracy. The firm insisted: “This was a freak accident.”
