`We are here to deliver,’ says GilaniMarch 23rd, 2008 - 8:23 pm ICT by admin
Islamabad, Mar.23 (ANI): Makhdoom Yousuf Raza Gilani, the prime ministerial nominee of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), today said that he was hopeful of fullfilling the promises made by his party during the February 18 general elections.
I can only assume that we are here to deliver — we are not here just to stay for a period, Gilani told reporters outside parliament, where he filed his nomination papers ahead of Monday’s election for the premiership.
Inshallah, we will deliver and there is a will and there is a hope. When asked how the new government would handle Musharraf.
I will follow the Constitution. We will struggle for the supremacy of the Parliament and make it supreme in all policymaking, because it reflects the wishes of the people, he said.
Meanwhile, President Pervez Musharraf has said an era of democracy has begun in Pakistan, a day after an alliance of four parties led by Pakistan Peoples Party named their candidate to lead a coalition government.
He was addressing a military parade on the occasion of Pakistan’s national day.
Assuring full support to the incoming government, he said:Whichever new government is formed, it will enjoy my full support.
I hope that these governments will maintain political peace … and will continue the struggle against terrorism and extremism with the same force, he added. (ANI)
