UK Hindu couples bedroom turned temple draws 50,000 pilgrimsMay 29th, 2008 - 2:02 pm ICT by admin
London, May 29 (ANI): An Indian couple have had more than 50,000 visitors to their home since they turned their spare bedroom into a Hindu temple 29 years ago.
Sushila and Dhirajlal Karia, of Clacton, Essex, regularly receive coachloads of visitors to their detached house in a quiet residential street.
Their room has been transformed into a religious shrine with 17 authentic marble statues of gods and goddesses.
A priest from India blessed the temple at Clacton-on-Sea in a four-day ceremony.
There was no temple in Essex so we prayed in our own home. We needed a priest to inaugurate a ceremony so the gods become alive and worthy of prayer, The Sun quoted Dhirajlal, as saying.
“People started to hear about it and came to pray from all over England, he added.
His wife, Sushila, 57, added: “The priest took all the statues to the seafront and put them in the water.”
The couple wants to turn their home into a community centre so the temple can continue after they die. (ANI)
