UAE charity, Oxfam to help displaced Pakistanis
November 30th, 2010 - 1:00 am ICT by IANSAbu Dhabi, Nov 29 (IANS/WAM) The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) and Oxfam Monday signed an agreement to boost cooperation in crisis management, including the creation of an “Emirati village” in Pakistan to help more than 100,000 displaced people in the country.
The organisations will work together to develop effective mechanisms for assessment and planning of relief and development programmes.
They will work jointly to upgrade health and environmental services, exchange expertise and build capacities.
An MoU was signed on this by RCA acting secretary general Mohammed Al Hamadi and Oxfam chief executive Barbara Stocking.
Al Hamadi said the MoU will open up broader avenues for joint cooperation and coordination and bolster joint partnerships to help the people.
“This step is set to add a new qualitative leap in movements of the two agencies in the international humanitarian scene,” he added.
RCA deputy secretary general Saleh Al Taie said the RCA and Oxfam agreed to mobilise their resources to provide drinking water to the displaced people in Pakistan.
He said the RCA will build an Emarati village for displaced people in Peshawar and cooperation with Oxfam will be instrumental in delivering water to about 140,000 Pakistanis living in 20,000 tents.
