Transgenders to celebrate in Kolkata Saturday
April 29th, 2011 - 3:11 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, April 29 (IANS) The city hub Metro channel, accustomed to seeing protests and rallies by political parties and other organisations, will see a huge gathering of the third sex Saturday celebrating the annual transgender day.
April 30 has been recognised as the transgender day in West Bengal.
“Since last year we celebrate April 30 as the transgender day. Transgenders from all over the state will assemble at the Metro Channel in Esplanade and will hold various programmes the whole day,” Ranjit Sinha, secretary of the Association of Transgender-Hijra in Bengal (ATHB), told IANS Friday.
“Because of the assembly polls this year we won’t be taking out any rally,” he added.
