Toddler dies after falling into borewell
May 20th, 2011 - 6:58 pm ICT by IANSNashik (Maharashtra), May 20 (IANS) A toddler died Friday after falling into a borewell on a village farm near here, police said.
Despite several attempts by the local police and fire brigade to rescue him, the two-year-old boy could not be saved, they said.
“The victim Omkar Devre was playing at the farm Thursday, while his father Santosh was working close by. Although Santosh is not sure how his son fell into the borewell, we are assuming he must have strayed near the borewell while playing and subsequently fallen into it,” an official from Vani police station told IANS.
According to the official, local police and fire brigade officials undertook rescue operation Thursday night and dug a 22 feet deep pit close to the borewell but the child had already died before they could rescue him, he added.
The police have registered a case of accidental death.
