Tax is the only way to combat Britain’s binge-drinking culture: DoctorsNovember 18th, 2007 - 3:20 pm ICT by admin
London, Nov 18 (ANI): Imposing heavy taxes on all alcoholic drinks is the only way to break Britain’s “binge-drinking” culture, according to doctors.
Medics at the British Medical Association said that the taxes should be “proportionate”, with the biggest levies imposed on drinks with the highest alcoholic content, reports the Telegraph.
The association will call for the Government to introduce a raft of new measures to combat binge drinking in a report to be published in the New Year.
The association will also call for an advertising ban on alcohol similar to that on tobacco.
Critics have revealed that the culture of binge drinking has increased since the Licensing Act allowed 24-hour drinking two years ago this week. (ANI)
