London, Jun 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Over the years, there has been growing debate as to whether men also experience menopause in their lives. Most people thought it was just a myth. But is it?

A new study has revealed that male menopause is real, but it’s not common like the female menopause. Male menopause is in fact very rare, which affects very few men at all.

The research, which was conducted by British scientists, found out that some common symptoms have been identified in males who suffer from menopause. The men in their menopause also had low levels of testosterone, a vital male hormone.

Scientists say they conducted studies on 32 symptoms, which have a possible link to menopause. It was found out that decreased sex desire, erectile dysfunction and non-erection in the morning were identified with the male menopause.

Scientists say the diagnosis of male menopause will involve investigating the levels of testosterone and the presence of these three symptoms. Ilpo Huhtaniemi, who is a professor of Reproductive Endocrinology at Imperial College London, and the Co-author of the New England Journal of Medicine study, said that, “There are the cowboys that believe that half of men need testosterone and there are skeptics who say that it doesn’t exist at all.”

On a rather lighter note, one of the researchers said the findings would give women some relief from the jokes, that men make of them because of menopause.
