April 13th, 2011 - 9:16 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, April 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A new study has found that compared with childless women, mothers tend to eat more and exercise less. The researchers also found that being a parent also has an effect on a person’s ability to exercise.
The research and its findings were published in the journal Pediatrics.
During the research, the researchers recruited about 1,520 adults. The participants’ average age was 25 years and the parents among them had children who were less than five years. The research was started much earlier on. The respondents were part of about 4,000 teen students who were studied in Minneapolis. The researchers only considered those who made themselves available to follow-up surveys by answering questions about their health, activity levels and diets.
At the end of the research, the researchers identified that compared with their childless counterparts, the women with children consumed in excess about 368 calories more each day. The researchers also found that mothers were less active- on average just over two hours daily- compared with childless women who were active on an average for three hours. Their eating habit and activity reflected in their BMI with mothers having an average of 27 compared with the childless women’s 26.
