Study finds that cancer cells thrive on fructose
August 4th, 2010 - 8:26 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattWashington DC, Aug 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Researchers in the United States say they have discovered that the age long belief that all sugars are the same, might not be true anymore.
A team of US researchers says when they used glucose and fructose to feed tumors, they realized that the tumor readily metabolized the fructose to proliferate. According to the researchers, the findings are significant because fructose have been found to have direct relationship with one of the most deadliest types of cancers, pancreatic cancer.
Though sugars have all been treated with suspicion in America with the American Heart Association saying too much sugar of any kind is dangerous to your health. The health officials, politicians and regulators are engaged in a debate about the relationship of fructose on obesity rate and health issues in Americans. The debate is about whether the high intake of fructose among Americans is responsible for the high rate of obesity in Americans.
Some states in the United States have taxed some of the soft drinks in their states to get the funds to be able to support the treatment of diabetes, heart problems and cancer which are all related to high sugar intake.
But most of the industry heavyweights have so far successfully prevented the country from placing the tax on the products. The consumption of fructose in the United States went up by 1,000 percent between the period of 1970 to 1990.
