Sreedharan back home after heart surgery
April 15th, 2010 - 8:24 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 15 (IANS) Delhi Metro chief E. Sreedharan, who underwent bypass surgery last week, was Thursday discharged from hospital but is likely to be out of action for six weeks, a doctor said.
Sreedharan was discharged from the Apollo Hospital here before noon.
“He is doing fine. His condition is much better. He walked out of the hospital,” senior cardiologist S.K. Gupta told IANS.
“After being discharged he will have to take rest and follow precautions a heart patient takes. We have advised that he doesn’t join work for at least six weeks,” he added.
On April 7, Sreedharan was rushed to the hospital after he complained of severe chest pain at the Delhi Airport from where he was to fly to Kolkata.
Doctors operated on Sreedharan the next day after his right and left coronary arteries were found entirely and partly blocked. Four grafts were planted to bypass the blockages.
The Delhi Metro chief is known to have a busy schedule and frequently travels to other cities, often as a consultant on other Metro projects that are underway.
Sreedharan revolutionised the capital’s transport with the rapidly expanding metro network, work on which began in 2002. He is also lauded for his stint as head of the Konkan Railways.
