London, July 14(ANI): Lord of the Rings star Sir Ian Mc Kellen has once again received death threats for being open about his sexuality and supporting gay US bishop Gene Robinson.
The actor recently revealed on BBCS Andrew Mar Show, that the number of death threats he has been receiving have mellowed down considerably in the past few years.
“I think I”ve become rather boring to the public at large on this particular issue,” BBC quoted Ian Mc Kellen, who came out in 1988, as saying.
The acclaimed Shakespearean actor who has been fighting against the discrimination against homosexuals, has firmly supported the American preacher who has been excluded from the Anglican Church convention, held every 10 years, which is to begin on the 16 th of July.
Sir Ian revealed that the British are still intolerant of homosexuality as the bishop has been receiving death threats and has been facing atrocities for being a gay.
“There are deaths in public places on the grounds that the victim is gay,” he said.
“There is violence of language which can be related to violence in action,” he added.
On the 20 th of July Bishop Robinson will attend the screening of a film based on how the Bible can be used to combat homophobia, and will hold a question and answer session with Sir Ian Mc Kellen. (ANI)
