Shanghai, July 7 (IANS) The young people in this Chinese city are having sex earlier than the older generations, said a report.

A report by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences said that people born in the 1980s have sex for the first time at an average age of 21.

The report was prepared on the basis of questionnaires of 2,200 local residents born from the 1950s to the 1980s.

The Shanghai Daily reported that compared to the youth of today, men and women born in the 1970s had their first sex at an average age of 23.

The average age for people born in the 1960s or 1950s was even later at 25 for men and 23 for women.

“Children also have easier access to sex information from novels and websites, compared with the previous generations,” Zhou Haiwang, deputy director of the academy’s population and development studies, was quoted as saying.

“Children should know the hazards of unprotected sex and abortion,” Zhou added.
