Scientists develop miracle self-mending tights

London, Feb 24 (ANI): Scientists in Paris have developed new tights that repair themselves within minutes of being ripped, thus putting an end to the embarrassment caused to millions of women.

The tights are made up of an elastic material that repairs itself up after being laddered.

According to the experts, the material is made up of molecules, which compels the torn ends to get back together thus allowing them to mend themselves.

The elastic can be used in making many things including unchippable paint and unbreakable glass.

“I think it will have all sorts of uses, the Daily Record quoted Professor Ludwik Leibler, one of the researchers, as saying.

“It’s just a matter of using your imagination. We have only just begun to think of what can be done with it.

“Stockings are a very good idea. It could be used in glass vases so they don’t break when your children knock them over - it could make the glass bouncy, he added.

It is difficult for the material to re-heal in hotter temperatures. At 23 degree Celsius the tights could be left for a week, but at 40 degrees there is just a 48-hour window to repair them.

Once left to re-heal for 15 minutes, the material can be stretched to three times its length.

Leibler hopes that the material could also be used in medicine, for artificial bones and cartilage. (ANI)
