Jan 13, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A recent study has burst the myth of the running shoes. The study was reported in a journal of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The survey was conducted over a number of young runners, adult, about 68 of them, among whom 37 were women. All of them were given running shoes, and then asked to run for about 15 miles per day. After that, their jogging was observed. None of them had ever suffered from any kind of musculosketal injury.
The study based on the survey concludes that the age old idea that revolves around the running shoes is nothing but a myth. The report shows that while the running shoes give the runners the advantage of protecting their feet while jogging, on the other hand, it also exerts considerably more strain on the hip, knee and elbow joints. Surprisingly enough, it has been found that running barefoot is a better option, as it does not result in those areas taking on excess strain. It was found that those who ran barefoot, incurred about 38% lesser chance of suffering from the twisting of a knee joint.
This is because if the individual runs barefoot, it increases the strain that is incurred by the lower extremities. In fact, so much, that it seems that at times, running shoes are not much better than the high heels, which also causes similar problems. The best option is to run barefoot. However, this does not mean that people should go off running shoes completely, given that even running barefoot can cause considerable damage. The middle path can be to don better designed running shoes.
