New Delhi, Jan 29 (IANS) Spitting, urinating and littering on roads will soon invite monetary penalties, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said Friday while promising to make the city garbage free.
Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain urged the state government to clear the Delhi Cleanliness and Sanitation Byelaws, 2009.

He said the MCD had already approved it in May 2009 and subsequently sent it to the Delhi government for approval and notification.

“The byelaws seeks a fine of Rs.200 for littering on roads, streets,” he said, adding that people spitting, urinating, washing utensils in public places and not keeping a house by-lane clean will face a penalty.

The mayor also asked the municipal commissioner to ensure that Delhi is made garbage free before commencement of the Commonwealth Games and asked him to prepare a master plan for achieving the goal.
