Chennai, June 18 (ANI): Bikers have something to cheer about as the motorcycle giant Royal Enfield launches its new model Thunderbird Twinspark 350cc in Chennai on Wednesday.

The new model Thunderbird Twinspark is fitted with Evolutionary Unit Construction Engine (UCE) that will have an electronic fuel injection system which, according to the company officials would reduce friction and wear-and-tear in mechanical parts of the engine, thus would offer refinement in the performance of the bike.

Speaking at the launch Ravichandran the chief executive officer of Royal Enfield Limited told reporters that the company will introduce four new models by the end of 2010-11, with two each catering to the Indian market and international market, including European and other markets, respectively.

The motorcycles for international market would be 500 cc vehicles.

For this model we are expecting a sale of close to 500 motorcycles for this year and probably it will grow at a rate of 10-15 percent year after. We are also planning to improve some more features in this. Every year we keep doing some improvements and the company’s production facility today is about 40,000 units. We are planning to take this facility from 40,000 to 50,000 to 60,000 in the next two and a half year’s time, said Ravichandran.

This is going to be the first from the stable of Royal Enfield, which would have engine with an integrated gearbox mated to the engine.

The company intends to cater not only the local needs but it has plans to export the new breed of its motorbikes to foreign shores by making it compatible with latest emission norms of the west.

We have developed a new technology here which is the unit construction engine. It is in two forms, the 350 is the twin’s part which is for the Indian markets and the 500 electric fuel injection for the European markets. European already needs the Euro three norms, which are very stringent, admission standards and which will be introduced in future in India . So we are set to meet admission norms with this new engine platform for the next many years to come so we are able to de risk ourselves from any future mission related regulations, said Managing Director Siddartha Lal.

The producers feel that the price tag of rupees 1,03,000 would not deter the willingness of the Enfield lovers in the country with massive market potential.
The Enfield , with its long experience of motorcycle manufacturing, has carved a niche for itself among the motorbike lovers across the world. (ANI)
