Rescued Delhi toddler’s mother accepts mistake
April 27th, 2011 - 7:30 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 27 (IANS) She kept rocking him in her lap and ran her fingers through his hair…Gayatri Singh, who was united with her 18-month-old son three days after he was kidnapped by the family maid, said she blamed herself for not getting the servant’s police verification done.
“It was completely my folly that I had not got her (maid) police verified…She had been in my house for 10 days. The Crime Branch and the Delhi Police have to be praised that they so quickly and efficiently cracked the case. They were finding a needle in a haystack,” Gayatri said.
Ishaan, who had gone missing with his maid Seema Sunday, was rescued by Delhi Police at about 11 p.m. Tuesday from the capital’s adjoining suburb Faridabad.
The kidnapping plot was hatched by five men and women, including the maid Savita Kerketa alias Seema.
According to police, the five people were tired of their menial jobs and wanted to earn a quick buck as they were planning to demand a ransom of Rs. 2 crore.
Gayatri said Seema came across as a pleasant person, which convinced her to hire her.
“I had no clue where she came from…she came to our house without any reference and I hired her in good faith. I liked her nature and behaviour but she had one face for us and another for others,” said Gayatri.
“I and my husband know what we have gone through in the past two days…it is very personal and I do not want to discuss it here.
“I did not have the time to mourn for my loss as they have kept me so busy and involved in the investigation. They did not leave any stone unturned,” she said.
The entire family was relieved that their ordeal was finally over.
“I am very happy and I feel very proud of the sincere efforts of Delhi Police,” the boy’s father Vikram told IANS.
Ishaan’s grandfather Lakhvendra Singh said: “I am very happy today and you would understand my feelings only if you yourself were a grandparent.”
