Queen Elizabeth’s long-lost photos found
October 12th, 2010 - 1:59 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Oct 12 (IANS) Long-lost black-and-white photographs of Queen Elizabeth II, the late Shah of Iran and the Sultan of Brunei, used for designing postage stamps, have been found in a box full of junk.
Andrew Binks, 47, of Southport, Merseyside, was cleaning his house when he decided to have a final look in a box of old papers. He was stunned when he pulled out the historic photos along with sketches, The Sun reported.
“It’s amazing, I was going to chuck them on the fire,” Binks said.
He had been given the box stuffed with newspaper clippings a few years ago when he went to a house clearance sale. He also bought some old maps.
“I thought I might sell the maps for a bob or two but the rest looked like a box of old rubbish.”
The portraits of the Queen, the late Shah of Iran and the Sultan of Brunei were among hundreds of old black and white photographs he discovered.
The pictures were taken by photographers Sir Cecil Beaton, Dorothy Wilding and Anthony Buckley.
Binks plans to sell these to fund a disabled workshop charity he set up.
