Prachanda urges Maoists to maintain peace ahead of polls

- Kathmandu, Apr 9 (ANI): Maoist Chairman Prachanda has condemned the killing of Maoist workers in Dang and urged party cadres to maintain restraint ahead of the Constituent Assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters after meeing Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, Prachanda said there is a need to express commitment for a free and fair election.
He urged the government to take action against those involved in the killing of Maoist workers in Dang.
The killing followed a bitter clash between Maoist and Nepali Congress (NC) workers in the Lamahi Bazaar area of Dang District.
Police intervened and resorted to firing, which left seven Maoists dead and dozen others injured. Five died on the spot, while two died during treatment. Curfew has been imposed in the area.
Local administration has lifted curfew in Lamahi and Satbariya areas. (ANI)
