Pfizer offers free prescription drugs to people who have lost their jobsMay 15th, 2009 - 3:55 pm ICT by ANI
New York, May 15 (ANI): Major pharmaceutical company Pfizer Incorporated has offered people, who have recently lost their jobs and health insurance, a year of free prescription drugs.
Pfizer’s erectile dysfunction drug Viagra was among the drugs that were being offered for free on May 13.
The world’s biggest drug maker, which has laid off thousands of its employees in recent months, said that it would give away up to a year’s supply of medicine to Americans already taking the drugs.
“Everybody knows now a neighbor, a relative who has lost their job and is losing their insurance,” the New York Daily News quoted Pfizer official Dr. Jorge Puente as saying.
“Our aim is to help people bridge this point,” he stated.
Around 70 popular drugs will be given out, including cholesterol fighter Lipitor and painkiller Celebrex, to anyone who has been laid off since January 1, and who have been using the drugs for at least three months.
The scheme is also expected to help keep patients loyal to Pfizer brands.
“Pfizer is trying to maintain their (market) share, if not grow their share by keeping struggling customers from switching to generic drugs,” David Heupel, a mutual fund manager who focuses on health care stocks, added. (ANI)
