Melbourne, Sept.29 (ANI): Australias tour of India will proceed as scheduled despite the recent bomb blasts in Indian capital Delhi.
With Indian cricket and security officials confirming that all efforts will be made to ensure full-proof security during the third Test in Delhi, Cricket Australia officials have kept their request for a change in venue in abeyance.
Cricket Australia said yesterday it had no intention at this stage to push for that game, which starts on October 29, to be relocated, but was awaiting information from its security experts.
“We are not due to go to New Delhi for the best part of a month and I would guess that unless our security advice changes, I wouldn”t expect our plans to change,” said CA spokesman Peter Young.
“Certainly the briefings we have been getting have suggested no immediate need to change our processes. Our advice is that there is no specific concern about cricket,” he added.
The latest explosion was in a crowded market in south Delhi, where two men on a motorcycle dropped a package on the road and a 10-year-old boy was killed when he moved to pick it up and return it to them.
It came a fortnight after 26 people were killed in a synchronised attack on five targets in Delhi.
The Australians were briefed by CA security consultant Frank Dimasi, and will fly to Hyderabad today.
“There is some nervousness, and that is natural, given there was a bombing before the tour started, but it’’s not to the point of panic, otherwise we wouldn”t have gone,” said a source close to the Australian team.
“No one is saying they want to go home or anything like that,” he added.
Board official Ratnakar Shetty was adamant the third Test would proceed in the capital. “Whatever assurance is possible we have made, he said. (ANI)
