Oz firm promises to make one look good in Google search results
February 1st, 2011 - 6:59 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Feb 1 (ANI): An Australian company has claimed to have the capability to tweak the material that appears in Google’s search system when someone looks for a person.
David Cannell, the founder of Online Reputation Management Australia, said demand for his company’s services had increased dramatically in the past 12 months.
“There is an avalanche of data on the net and people are adding to it every day, sometimes without realising what they put on the net about themselves sticks,” News.com.au quoted him as saying.
“People are only just starting to become aware that there are issues both on a personal level and on a corporate level,” he said.
The idea is to push negative material off the first page of Google results, and promote positive material onto it, using search engine optimisation (SEO).
Cannell said that by repeating the same process, his company was able to manipulate the entire first page of search results for a given name.
“Eventually, by using this process we can control the first page of the search for the client. Negatives shifted to page two. Then page three,” he stated.
Cannell said the average client spent between 3000 dollars and 5000 dollars for these services, but some paid up to 10,000 dollars to restore their digital reputation.
But some experts have said that the technique lacks credibility. (ANI)
