Not many Britons care for their neighbours
November 30th, 2011 - 10:05 am ICT by IANSLondon, Nov 30 (IANS) Britain is today witnessing a major change with fewer people willing to look out for their neighbours or ask them for help, a study has revealed.
The poll, conducted by a used car programme, Nissan Cared4, revealed that just six percent of the individuals surveyed felt that their neighbourhood had a strong sense of community, the Daily Express reported.
Popping next door to borrow something or having a quick chat across the garden fence was out for over half of the people surveyed. Seventy percent of the people did not even know their neighbours’ names.
While 83 percent thought the world to be a “kinder place” when their parents were young and there was more time to be neighbourly, only a minority could recall enjoying a kindness from a neighbour.
