New telescope to search for aliensJune 9th, 2010 - 3:08 pm ICT by ANI
London, June 9 (ANI): British astronomers have developed a telescope that will be used to search for life in other solar systems.
The universities of Portsmouth, Oxford and Southampton have collaborated with other British experts to construct the equipment.
The first stage of the Low Frequency Array (Lofar) telescope involves 96 radio antennae being erected this week in a field at the Chilbolton Observatory near Andover, Hants.
Thereafter, 5,000 separate antennae will be stationed all over Europe.
“Maybe we can answer the age-old question: ‘Are we alone?’” The Daily Star quoted Prof. Bob Nichol, of the University of Portsmouth, as saying. (ANI)
