Ahmedabad, March 24 (IANS) An ultra-modern culture laboratory for TB diagnosis at the Civil Hospital here was inaugurated Monday on the occasion of the World TB Day. Gujarat Health Minister Jaynarayan Vyas, who inaugurated the facility, said three such laboratories are accredited at the national level and the Ahmedabad lab is the first to attain the accreditation at the state level.
“Tuberculosis can be cured. The patients have to follow strict guidelines and in no case medicines should be discontinued until the patient gets totally cured,” Vyas said.
Rita Tevatia, principal secretary of the health and family welfare department, outlined the facilities available to patients here and said more than 100,000 lives are saved with the implementation of the DOTS programme.
